Week beginning - Monday 12th January 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
This week in Year 2, the children have been engaged and enthusiastic across all areas of learning, showing curiosity, confidence, and a growing ability to explain their thinking.
In Maths, we have introduced our new unit on money. The children have been learning to recognise and use pounds and pence, exploring the different coins and their values. A key focus has been understanding that £1 is the same as 100p, and the children have enjoyed discussing and comparing amounts using both notation and practical resources. Through partner talk and group discussions, the children have demonstrated the Learner Profile Attributes of being Knowledgeable and Communicators, confidently explaining how they know the value of different coins and sharing their reasoning with others. We will continue to build on this learning by using money in problem-solving contexts, including making totals and finding change.
In Inquiry, we have continued to explore our central idea “Living things have basic needs which need to be met to ensure survival.”
Our focus has been on Line of Inquiry 1, where we have been identifying different living things and discussing what they need in order to survive. The children have been able to explain that living things need things such as food, water, air, and shelter, and have begun to compare the needs of humans, animals, and plants. As part of this learning, we have also started to discuss the importance of hygiene and how it helps to prevent the spread of germs and infection. The children have taken part in thoughtful discussions about how looking after our bodies supports our health and wellbeing. We have talked about everyday routines such as brushing our teeth, washing our hands with warm soapy water, and showering or bathing to keep our bodies and hair clean. The children showed great understanding of why these routines are important and how they help us stay healthy.
We have also loved seeing the children starting to bring in homework. Please remember the deadline for the module 3 homework is Thursday 5th February. There is an expectation that every child completes at least one of the homework activities in addition to the weekly reading. Please feel free to bring in any homework as and when you complete it - we just ask that it is named!
It has been a busy and productive week, and we are very proud of the children’s positive attitudes and willingness to contribute to discussions.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support at home.
