Week beginning - Monday 5th January 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
A Warm Welcome to Module 3!
We have been so incredibly proud of how the children have settled back into the swing of school life after the Christmas break. They have returned with such energy and focus, truly demonstrating the Learner Profile Attributes of being principled and open-minded learners. It has been a joy to welcome them back!
Team Updates
In Year 2, we have some wonderful new faces! 2B has been busy getting to know Mr. Bamping, who has settled into our team brilliantly. We feel very lucky to have him with us; he brings many years of PYP teaching experience from both the UK and international schools, and we are already drawing on his wealth of knowledge. Meanwhile, 2H has been enjoying their time with Miss Beamish. She has already built such strong, lovely relationships with the children, and her presence in the classroom is a fantastic addition to our year group.
Maths
Our mathematicians have been busy consolidating their knowledge of shapes. We have been exploring the world of 2D and 3D shapes, discussing their unique features and spotting them in the world around us. The children have had great fun identifying similarities and differences and finding creative ways to categorise them!
Inquiry
Our new Unit of Inquiry has officially launched! Our Central Idea is: “Living things have basic needs which need to be met to ensure survival.” We kicked things off with a "knowledge harvest," where the children shared what they already know and, more importantly, asked brilliant and insightful questions about what they want to discover over the course of this module. This helps us ensure the learning is student-led and exciting at all times. We’ve also had some thoughtful discussions on the difference between needs (the essentials for survival) and wants (things that make life a bit more fun but aren't necessary for us to grow).
🚨 Important Reminders 🚨
PE Days:
Going forward, PE will take place on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing a weather-appropriate PE kit on these days.
Winter Layers:
As we are now well into the heart of winter, it is very chilly outside! Please send your child to school with plenty of layers. To help us return any misplaced items to their rightful owners, please ensure every piece of clothing is clearly labelled with your child’s name as it becomes quite challenging to keep track of 90 hats and scarves!
Homework:
Many of you have probably noticed that the homework grid for this module is now live on Google Classroom. Please ensure that you are making an effort to complete some of the tasks on this list. There is a range of activities designed to spark the children's interest surrounding our Central Idea. You also have access to EdShed, Oxford Owl, TTRS and Numbots, the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and the Year 2 CEWs. These are all available on Google Classroom, if you have any issues logging into any of these accounts, please speak to your class teacher as your first port of call.
Thank you all so much for your continued support and kindness as we have navigated our recent staffing changes. Having such a supportive community of parents makes all the difference, and we are so excited to see where this module takes us!
