Week beginning - Monday 19th January 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
This week in Year 4, we have been exploring Mayan religion and learning about the gods worshipped by the Mayans. We discovered the symbols associated with each god and discussed their significance. The children then applied their learning to diary writing by imagining themselves as Mayan children facing a problem in their community. They acted out these scenarios in the classroom, using their senses to inspire ambitious and descriptive vocabulary for their writing.
In Reading, we have been developing our prediction and summarising skills. We are exploring a text about Hasam, who enters a magical book and finds himself in the Mayan rainforest, navigating his way out of danger.
In Maths, we focused on dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. While this has been a challenging concept, the children have shown determination and perseverance, working carefully through strategies and methods to solve problems. We are also continuing to strengthen our times tables knowledge, with particular focus on the 3, 6, and 9 times tables, which we will continue to practise throughout the term.
