Week beginning - Monday 19th January 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another busy and exciting week of learning in Year 2.
In Inquiry, the children have been learning about healthy living linking to our central idea. They created a balanced diet menu using their knowledge of the different food groups, carefully thinking about what our bodies need to stay healthy. The children used their Chromebooks to combine their computing skills with their understanding of nutrition, producing some fantastic work. Alongside physical health, we have also been discussing mental health and the importance of looking after ourselves. The children talked about different ways they like to calm themselves, such as reading, drawing, listening to music, or spending time outdoors. They then wrote a script and performed a Dragon’s Den–style elevator pitch, explaining why their chosen strategy is good for mental health and how it could inspire others. The children showed great confidence, creativity, and empathy during these performances.
In Maths, we have continued our learning about money. In 2H, Miss Beamish set up a class shop where the children were able to apply their knowledge in a real-life context by using money to purchase items. The children thoroughly enjoyed their shopping experiences and demonstrated excellent understanding. Next week, we will be looking at giving change and what happens when we do not have the exact coins. We have also been using inequality symbols to compare different amounts of money.
PE and Uniform Reminders:
Please remember that PE days are Monday and Thursday, and children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. On all other days, children should be in full school uniform. We are currently seeing an increase in the number of children not wearing ties. As we are having a push on presentation, please ensure that children are coming to school in the correct full uniform, including their tie.
Thank you for your continued support!
The Year 2 Team.
