Week beginning - Monday 5th January 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
This week in Year 4, we explored the fascinating world of the Mayans. The children learned about the Mayan calendar, their spiritual beliefs, the importance of maize, and the significance of chocolate in Mayan culture. They were highly engaged during our hook lesson, asking thoughtful questions and wondering about the meanings behind these traditions. We also used our knowledge of grid references to explore a map of the Mayans.
In Reading, we focused on developing inference skills while reading an explanation text about Layla and her submarine quest. The children practised reading between the lines to deepen their understanding of the text.
In Maths, we investigated dividing by 10 and 100. The children recognised patterns and built confidence in applying these rules to a range of problems.
We are continuing to strengthen our times tables knowledge and will be practising these throughout the term. Our current focus is on the 3s, 6s and 9s tables.
In PSHE, we discussed New Year’s resolutions and created a class resolution list. Year 4 voted to focus on mindfulness this year, taking time to pause and reflect — a wonderful goal chosen by 4R!
