Week beginning - Monday 12th January 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
It has been another wonderful week in Year One, which has been bursting with a variety of learning opportunities for the children to engage in actively. In Phonics, we have continued to work on trigraphs. We have focused on 'are' (hare, square, scarecrow) and 'ere' (where, there, everywhere), allowing the children time to decode and blend a wide variety of words and to create sentences using words with these trigraphs. In Maths, we have continued to develop our knowledge of numbers and place value. We have been working hard to identify how many tens and ones in numbers to twenty and have been recognising and finding one more and one less than numbers to twenty. The children enjoyed using Numicon, counters and ten frames to support their understanding throughout the week. We have continued to focus on our core text, 'Between tick and tock.' We have been developing our inference skills by describing how we think Liesel (the main character) is feeling throughout the story and explaining why we believe she is feeling this way using 'because' to extend our ideas. We were very excited to begin learning about plants. We worked together to plant some bulbs. We have learned what they will need to grow and survive and are excited to care for our bulbs and watch them grow. If you peek through our classroom windows, you soon may spot a daffodil or a crocus pop up as we edge closer to Spring.
