Carrie Helm has been in an OKCPS classroom for ten years. She is currently the Leadership and 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens teacher at Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School and serves as the school’s Leader in Me Lighthouse Coordinator, seeking innovative ways to encourage student growth, promote success, and instill leadership skills that benefit the school and their personal lives.
After a brief time away from public schools, Mrs. Helm quickly realized her heart ached for the rich culture, diversity, inclusion, and relationships found in Oklahoma City Public Schools. She has spent her return to OKCPS intentionally focusing on ways to better connect with coworkers, students, and the community. Mrs. Helm serves as Chair of FAC and Hospitality Committees, partners with The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Children’s Hospital to organize student service projects, and can often be found attending sports and fine arts events to support her students and colleagues.
As a Leadership teacher, Mrs. Helm’s academic goal is to cultivate responsible citizens who recognize the importance of effective communication and maintaining healthy relationships. Through modeling these tenants, she aspires to make meaningful connections with students that will remind them of their value and worth long after they leave her classroom.
