I cannot remember a time that I did not want to be a teacher; school has always been my happy place. I love learning and sharing that love with others. After graduating from Langston University with a Bachelor of Art in English Education, I began my career as an educator at Douglass High School where I have had the privilege to serve the students and the community for the last ten years. I have been fortunate to be a member of a dedicated team of teachers that have helped me grow and supported me throughout my journey. I have served in several capacities in my building including grade level team lead, junior class sponsor, girl’s cross-country coach, and assistant soccer girl coach. Currently, I am the cheerleading coach, student council sponsor, and English department chair. I have helped organize numerous events, planned programs, and executed a school wide service project.
In my very early years of teaching, I overheard a colleague telling a student “you are your only hope.” Those words are the foundation of my approach to teaching. I strive to empower my students with the skills that they need to be the best version of themselves and to recognize the power and influence that they have in the world. I enjoy watching students grow and accomplishing their goals. I have had many successes and many more failures. Anytime I get tired and discouraged, something happens, and I am reminded of my purpose to teach and to create an environment that fosters the positive development of children. I am blessed and extremely grateful for relationships that I have built with my students and their families. It is my hope to continue growing and developing new ways to better serve my students.
