I began my career in Higher Education to ensure that all students have access to post-secondary opportunities. During my time at the University of Oklahoma, I began to realize that many educational obstacles that students face begin prior to their high school years. This is when I decided to switch my focus to K-12 education.
In 2015 I became dual certified in early childhood and elementary education. I was chosen to be a 2015 Teach for America Corp member with the intention of staying and investing in the Oklahoma City community. My first four years of teaching were spent at Kaiser Elementary where I taught kindergarten and second grade. Throughout these four years I worked alongside a wonderful team to create partnerships with parents to help guarantee that our students were supported and successful within our school. Simultaneously, I chose to continue my education by obtaining a masters in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Central Oklahoma in order to better serve my students and their families.
Through Pathway to Greatness, I had the opportunity to move to Classen SAS Middle School. Since moving to middle school, I have developed a love for teaching middle school math and science. As a teacher, my responsibility to my students is to meet them where they are by providing a space where they know they are enough, where they can make mistakes, ask questions, and learn together without fear of judgment.
As I finish my seventh year with Oklahoma City Public Schools, I am both proud of the progress we have made and look forward to our continued growth. We have the best and brightest students and educators here in OKCPS. May we know our potential, may we expound upon that potential, and may we continue to create equitable classrooms where both students and teachers are valued within our wonderful district.
