I have taught for twenty-seven years, all as a proud employee of OKCPS. I hold both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Early Childhood education and am a National Board Certified teacher. I began my career at Capitol Hill and Polk Elementary schools. I was fortunate to join the staff of Nichols Hills Elementary because I wanted to be a part of the enriched Core Knowledge curriculum they were using. I have been there now for 23 years teaching kindergarten, first, and second grades. My first schools helped prepare me for the diversity and excellence that makes up Nichols Hills. My varied experiences have greatly contributed to my development as a teacher, mentor, parent, and community member.
I am most passionate about kindergarten and what every day brings. As a kindergarten teacher I face an exciting challenge each day. I help foster an early love of learning to ensure future academic success in my students. I grew up loving school and attribute that to teachers who had a positive influence on me. Kindergarten lays the foundation for learning. I have created a child-centered classroom and offer my students daily opportunities for discussion and peer interaction. Focusing on a cooperative rather than competitive environment builds self-esteem and confidence in my young students. One of my favorite things is when former students come back to visit me as a high school or college student, or as a working adult to thank me for the things they learned in kindergarten.
