In Dana’s grade 4 class, students have been learning a lot about their brains and identifying how our amygdala, prefrontal cortex, and hippocampus work.
They’ve also been developing their “mental fitness” by adopting a variety of mindfulness techniques including sending loving kindness, body breaks, and stretching and yoga. Building these techniques are helping with self-regulation, nurturing a growth mindset, and easing anxiety.
Dana’s class had the pleasure of inviting Jennifer (EA Sara Sonsini’s mom) to lead us in a Yoga and Mindfulness session.
Thoughts from the class:
Yoga was really fun! I especially liked the “child’s pose” and being able to just relax at the end. The trickiest pose was the “airplane.” ~ Austin
Mindfulness and yoga help calm me and I really want to do the Yoga class again. ~ Esme
I loved how peaceful the Yoga was and how quiet and focused everyone was. ~ Sophie
Yoga was really wonderful and relaxing. No one was talking, like they often do. I liked the candles (battery operated), the calming set up and that the mats were already in place for us. ~ Maeve
