Fall Creatures
Here's a story about how Alena's Grade 2 class class explored the fall season in a range of ways.....
The students:
Listened to to Vivaldi 4 Seasons and learned about the composer (Music)
Learned about the seasons and plants (Science)
Collected different leaves and plants and then sorted and graphed the leaves by shapes, colours, and size (Math)
Created "wildwood creatures" using chalk pastels as a base (while learning the principles of portrait and colours) and then finished their creations with nature materials (Art)
Learned about narrative writing with a focus on dialogue writing (Language Arts)
Brought all of their learning together by writing a short drama skit and then acting out the short skit with a partner (Drama)
Students learned skills across the curriculum, got outside to collect their nature materials, and built the confidence to speak in front of an audience. A lot of creative fun was had!
“It was super fun! I will keep my creature forever!”
