Depending on the year, we often have a Kindergarten choir. Here's a story about the choir from November 2019:
On Tuesday November 5th, all kindergarten students and their families were invited to the fall Kinder Choir Sharing Circle. Families were invited to bring instruments to play.
The event was organized to give the kinders a chance to share with their families the songs they’ve been practicing at school in weekly Kinder Choir sessions. It also gave them a chance to meet each other’s families and build community together through song.
Facilitated by RECEs Norma-Jean Armitage and Vanessa Pellerin, everyone joined a big circle and sang the songs that the Kinder Choir had been practicing all fall. Some kinders ran to the front to sing while others sat comfortably in their parents’ laps. Some ran back and forth between the front and their families in between songs.
We sang:
Cinq Fourmis
Dix Doigts (Isabelle Caillard)
This Little Light Of Mine
You Are My Sunshine
If Not Me
The students were so proud to share the songs they had learned! And they were so excited to be at school with their classmates and their families on a school night. They had a great time singing and dancing together in the gym. It was a magical night (of musical mayhem) with siblings young and old joining in, as well as parents and grandparents too!
“When we got here, I was feeling drowsy and grumpy after falling asleep on the couch and then dragging myself here with the kids but I’m so glad I came. I feel warm and happy inside. What a magical evening.” – a hardworking mom
