For over 20 years, Kindergarten teacher Michele White, or should we say Snowflake has led the very popular North Pole Elf Academy at Churchill Alternative.
Every child/elf candidate chooses an elf name and school uniforms are carefully fitted. Each elf also choses their own area of specialization: (1) Toy Making; (2) Cookie Baking; or (3) Reindeer Caretaking.
In keeping with the Elf Academy motto, elves practice to Be kind. Be helpful. Be an Elf.
Note that it's not all eye twinkling and adorable chuckles at the Academy. The training program is in-depth and demanding. The elves delve into core areas of study such as candy cane science, reindeer anatomy and pom pom probability.
As part of their program of study, elf candidates also further their knowledge regarding a variety of Festivals of Light that take place around this time of year such as Diwali, Hanukkah, Christmas, and the Winter Solstice.
Here are just some of the pieces of the course of study at the Elf Academy:
I made an elf hat, including pointy ears and pompom.
I participated in toy making activities.
I posed for my identification badge.
I chose an area of specialization.
I learned about a number of Festivals of Light.
I made presents for people I love.
I wrapped presents.
I studied the properties of candy canes.
I participated in an Elf Awareness workshop to help me cope with the stresses of life at Santa’s workshop.
I was cheerful and friendly.
I took the elf oath and was helpful and kind both at home and at the Academy.
