Monthly Update
Churchill news from January 2024!
Every month, our school council (CASC) meets to discuss events, fundraising, and other school-related topics. As part of the meeting, our teacher representative provides an update on some of the events that occur in the school. Our January meeting was the second day back from holiday so there wasn't much to report!
In addition, our principal sends out a weekly email which often includes a bit of information about what's happening around the school. While this post does not capture every event that happened this month, it does provide some highlights as shared by our staff.
Intramurals
Triple ball started January 9th! Triple Ball is a modified game of volleyball that helps developing athletes accelerate their development, improve skills, and experience more success while having triple the fun. The game follows a sequence of three rallies (service, free ball 1, and free ball 2). The service alternates between teams after each three-ball sequence. Cathy and the students are looking forward to the next two months of play!
Other little updates from our amazing principal Vanessa:
Baby quails (and incubating quail eggs) arrived and have created quite a stir in the Wolves class!
The Bumblees have been learning about Emperor penguins and were super excited to find out that I am not much taller than an Emperor penguin. Who knew?
There was a wonderful sharing led by the Foxes! Music, dances, showcasing projects with buddies… Sharings are really a way to, well, share all of the amazing learning, collaboration and events that happen at Churchill.
CASC ran an amazing movie night event. It is always wonderful to have everyone come together outside of school hours to enjoy a community evening.
Vanessa also introduced an all new part of her weekly Family Update featuring quotes from staff, students and community members about Churchill Alternative School and what makes it such an incredible place to be. You can see a few examples of the quotes to the right!
