The the fall of 2019, Tiiu’s Grade 5 class decided to explore inquiry by asking a big question – “How do we make an arcade out of cardboard that’s fun for everyone?”
Students broke that question into smaller and smaller questions and what they ended up with was “a boat load of fun”. The activity engaged the students in developing a wide range of skills – empathy (thinking about what others might find fun); cooperation and team work (working together to think about others’ interests and then putting a plan into practice); as well as imagination, creativity, design and persistence (making real, working games).
On October 31st the students had a great time running the arcade and seeing how much fun the other students (Grades 1-6) had playing the games.
It was quite the rewarding learning experience!
