This week in PE...
Welcome back from Fall Break! I hope everyone had a relaxing time whether you traveled or stayed home for break! I did not travel anywhere this year and just stayed home with my doggos!Β
We reviewed expectations and SOP's with all of our classes and for the remaining time left in PE, students were able to have some free choice station time outside. We acquired some donated equipment from a school that recently closed down so we were able to provide new fun PE equipment for our students to try out!Β
On Thursday K-5th grade participated in a sprinting activity. We had everone complete three rounds of sprints to work on our cardivascular endurance! 3rd-5th grade will complete their Fitnessgram Pacer Test later this year so it is important we start working on running, endurance, and stamina.Β

This week in PE...
All grade levels played a game called "Dragon Tails." For this game, every student had one scarf (dragon tail). The scarf had to be placed on the side of the body either in their waistband, pocket, or taped to their side. The goal of the game was to avoid getting your scarf pulled by another player while also trying to pull a scarf from someone else.Β
Grades 2nd-5th played a team game version. Each team was assigned one color dragon tail. They had to work together to run around and get the scarves of other team colors. When you have a dragon tail, you have the power to travel to any other team's zone to try to take their tail. Once your scarf was taken, you were NOT out of the game. Instead, you lost the magic power of being able to travel anywhere. The student without a scarf would have to stay inside their team's zone and could only pull scarves if someone from another team entered their zone.Β
For grades K-1st, one our first day of playing this game, we did not have teams. It was everyone vs. everyone. If a scarf was pulled we would say "OH RATS!" and hand the scarf back to the student and go try to get a new scarf from someone else. On the 2nd day we played this game, we told students they could not pull scarves that matched their color scarf because they were in the same dragon family.Β
This game worked on teamwork and the skills of chasing, dodging, and fleeing.Β
We did not have the gym this week, but high school allowed us to borrow the gym on Monday so some students got to have one class in the gym this week! You will see some photos from inside and outside π

This week in PE...
Hi everyone! Sorry for the delayed post from last week. I was out Thursday & Friday last week.Β
On Monday and Tuesday... K-2nd played a relay style game called "Igloo Drop." Students had to pick up an ice cube (ball) and put it between their knees and waddle/jump across the gym and place the ice cube in their team's bucket.Β
3rd-5th grade did a practice Pacer Test. This is a state mandated test for Fitnessgram testing that we must complete every year. We like to practice with our students a few times throughout the year before we do the real test so they can practice and know all the expectations.Β
On Wednesday & Thursday all students played one of my favorite big group games called "Treasure Grab." The goal of this game is to run to the middle, grab a piece of treasure, and bring it back to your team without getting tagged by a treasure guard (treasure guards hold pool noodles). Each round we add a mystery treasure worth a certain amount of points. Whichever team has the most points at the end wins!

On Monday and Tuesday we had a special guest come from Vonnacher Taekwondo. He taught a lesson to all our classes K-5. This lesson involved fitness activities and some taekwondo moves.Β
On Wednesday & Thursday it was our annual PE Spooky Games where we play a game called Pumpkin Patch. This is a team relay style game. Each team is assigned a different spooky item they are looking for hidden out in the pumpkin patch. The first student in line will run out and flip over one pumpkin. If it is not the item they are looking for, they will cover it back up. If it is the item they are looking for, they will take it back to their team. The first team to find all 6 items wins.Β
