This week in PE...
On Monday & Tuesday, I introduced our PE class jobs to our PE classes. To encourage more leadership during PE class, I have assigned different jobs for some students to have in PE. Every few weeks we will change who has the jobs so that everyone can have an opportunity to show their leadership skills! Students that have a job will wear a lanyard that has a badge telling what their job is.
Here are the jobs we currently have along with what color lanyard they wear:
Assistant PE Coaches = help PE teachers with anything they need.
Clean Up Crew = clean up and resets PE equipment and activities.
Door Holder = holds door for all 4 PE classes entering and exiting PE class.
Class Demonstrators = help demonstrate a new PE activity or game with PE Coaches.
Water Inspector = at the end of class, helps return any leftover water bottles.
Water Boy/Girl = must interrupt Coach Scimeca once a PE class to tell her to drink water!
Set Up Crew = helps reset PE activities and games or sets up new game for next class.
After our Class Job mini lesson and hiring our first group of PE employees, we went outside for the reminder of PE to have some free choice options. These options were soccer, volleyball, throwing and catching with scoops, cup stacking, and hula hooping!
On Wednesday & Thursday...
K-2nd played a fitness game called Fitness Uno. Students were in relay style lines. The first person in line would go to the bucket and pick up one UNO card. The student would look at the color of the card and go to the matching color cone. At the cone, there was a poster with an exercise. The student would read the number on the UNO card and do that many reps of the designated exercise at the cone.
3rd-5th grade worked on muscular strength and endurance by working together to do a fitness activity called "Flip the Tire." For this game, we had 6-9 students (depended on grade level) work together to flip a tire a small distance. They would pass the tire off to the next group os 6-9 students who would continue flipping the tire to the next group. We are working on proper form when squatting down, team work, and muscular strength.

This week in PE...
We are back in the gym for the next two weeks where we are starting our first ever GOLF unit! A huge thank you to PTA for letting me collect golf putters and putting greens over the last few years to make this unit possible.
Every grade level K-5th will be participating in this golf unit! This week our focus was working on how to grip a golf putter, how to stand, and how to swing. All grade levels played a game I created called "Pokémon Putt Putt." All around the gym I had hula hoops and inside each hula hoop was a cone with a Pokémon sticker on it. The first person from each team would step up to the putting area, take one put, and try to land the dodgeball into the hula hoop. If the dodgeball landed in a hula hoop, the student would "capture" that Pokémon and take it back to their team.
For K-1st grade, I placed the hula hoops closer together. For 2nd-5th I separated the hula hoops farther to make it more challenging for them.
On Wednesday & Thursday we played a similar game but instead of Pokémon inside of the hula hoops, I put a bunch of letters. I called it "Alphabet Soup." For grades 2nd-5th if the golf ball landed in a hula hoop, they could take one letter from that hoop and bring it back to their team. The goal is to spell as many words as possible before time is up.
K-1st grade played the same game but instead of spelling words they were trying to collect each letter of the alphabet!

This week in PE...
All grade levels K-5 finished out our golf unit by going through and playing a mini golf course! I was so excited to do this for the kiddos. I have been planning to do this for several years now and have been collecting all the materials to pull this course off.
4th & 5th graders had clipboards with scorecards to learn how to keep track of scores during our mini golf course!
I hope everyone has an amazing Thanksgiving break!
