November 4th-7th: πͺ πͺ πͺΒ
This week in PE....
We started our JUMP ROPE unit!!! Over the next three weeks we will be working to improve our jump rope skills.Β
On Monday and Tuesday all grade levels K-5th played a game called Treasure Jump. We learned about how to hold and swing a jump rope and applied what we learned to this game. This was a relay style game so we could have small groups to help all students improve at jump rope. The first student in line would complete a certain amount of jumps (ex. K = 2, 1st = 5, 2nd = 5, 3rd = 7, 4th = 8, and 5th = 10). After the jumps were completed they would run to the middle of the gym and grab a treasure item to bring back to their team. Each round we increased the number of jumps that needed to be done before getting a treasure!
On Wednesday and Thursday....
All grade levels participated in a 3-minute jump challenge where they had to do all different types of jumps nonstop for 3 minutes. Since it was a challenge we told students that it was okay to take breaks as needed and to see how long they could jump for! Some of the jumps we practiced were two feet, hopping on both legs, scissor jumps, straddle jumps, star jumps, and pretend jump roping.Β
After this challenge video we talked about Jump Rope Ninja which is another challenge we do in PE for jump rope where students do a certain number of jumps and earn a colored belt. I will make a big post about this next week on the blog!Β
To end class we did some jump rope partner practice. We worked on counting jumps for our partner and taking turns with the jump rope.Β

This week in PE...
All grade levels continued our jump rope unit and started Jump Rope Ninja! Jump Rope Ninja is a jump rope challenge where you complete a certain number of jumps and then earn a colored "belt" for each set of jumps you can do!Β
This year we made each student K-5 their very own jump rope ninja card. As a belt is earned, we can hole punch their card to show the belt was earned. At the end of the unit, students will get to take home their card!Β
Rules to Jump Rope Ninja:
You cannot skip any belts and must go in order starting at white belt.Β
The jumps must be done without any errors.Β
Only 4 belts total can be earned per class period.Β
Once to the upper level belts such as red, brown, and black belt you must test in front of a PE teacher to earn them.Β
When black belt is earned you also get a special certificate to take home along with your jump rope card!Β

This week in PE...
All grade levels K-5th continued their last week of jump rope. Over the last 3 weeks we have been working on our jump rope skills. We are doing a challenge in PE called Jump Rope Ninja where after a certain number of jumps completed in a row without stopping/mistakes the student earns a "colored belt." In last weeks post I gave jump count examples of posters for two different grade levels and showed my jump rope ninja card. The ninja card is used for hole punches to show when a student earned a belt. When a student tests for black belt they will also get a special black belt certificate to take home along with their ninja card!Β
All of our students have been working SO HARD to earn as many belts as possible and are so proud of their progress with jump rope over the last 3 weeks. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving break and the blog posts will continue when we are back!Β
Even on a rainy morning we pulled small groups to work on jump rope ninja in one of our PE classrooms!
