This week in PE...
K-2nd grade started a locomotor movement unit. A locomotor movement is how you can move your body to get from one place to the other and in PE we focus on 8 locomotor movements. We worked on walking, running, skipping, galloping, jumping, hopping, leaping, and sliding! Next week we are going to continue our locomotor unit while we are using the gym!
K-2nd played Fire & Ice tag to start class. If you get tagged by the noodle of ice (blue noodle), you are frozen, If you get tagged by the noodle of fire (red noodle), you are unfrozen and can keep running! Afterwards, we learned about each of the locomotor movements and practiced them around the gym.
On Wednesday & Thursday, we played a game called musical hoops. When the music is on, students do the designated locomotor movement around the gym. When the music stops they have 5 seconds to get inside a hula hoop. As time goes on we take away more and more hoops!
On Monday & Tuesday 3rd-5th grade played one of our favorite games CASTLE BALL!!! We like to teach this game at the beginning of the year because we use it for sub plans when a PE teacher is absent.
On Wednesday & Thursday 3rd-5th grade started a basketball unit! We worked on how to dribble a basketball by using our finger pads, pushing the basketball waist and below, and keeping our eyes up. We dribbled stationary with our dominant hand, non-dominant hand, switching hands, behind the back, and between our legs. Then we moved to dribbling on the move all over the gym! I am excited to continue this unit next week!

This week in PE...
K-2nd grade continued working on our locomotor movements such as walking, running, skipping, galloping, leaping, sliding, jumping, and hopping. We played a fun relay race game called Bean Bag Tower Relay! The goal was to stack the highest beanbag tower!
3rd-5th grade continued and finished their basketball unit! This week we worked on dribbling by playing a warm-up game called builders & dozers. Builders dribble and set up knocked over cones. Dozers dribble and knock over the set up cones! Then we worked on a bounce and chest pass in basketball!
On Wednesday & Thursday 3rd-5th grade learned about shooting a basketball. We use the acronym B.E.E.F for how to shoot a basketball! B = balance, E = eyes, E = elbows, F = follow through! We played a game called Perfect Shot. Students dribble their basketball down the court and stand in an empty hula hoop. From the hula hoop they must shoot the basketball. If they make the shot, they take the hula hoop with them back to their team as a point. If they miss the shot, they do not take the hoop. The team with the most hoops wins.

This week in PE...
Our turn in the gym is sadly over so we are back in our PE classroom/outside on the Big Field for PE.
All grades K-5th grade played at outside stations this week. We started inside our PE classroom for a mini lesson, then would go outside for PE station time.
I gave a mini lesson "All About Cones." During our PE classes, I have been noticing some friends not using and treating our cones properly so I wanted to make sure everyone was on the same page!
One of our 5th grade groups stayed inside one day this week due to weather. It was too hot so we played Gagaball with them!
Outside stations:
Soccer Pass
Jump Rope
Hula Hooping
Velcro Throwing

This week in PE...
To start our week all grades K-5th started with a health lesson about water, hydration, dehydration, and why our bodies need water!
On Wednesday, it was National Rock Paper Scissors Day! We decided it would be super fun to play a game that involves rock paper scissors to celebrate. We use RPS in PE all the time to play games and/or solve problems. The game we played is called "Get Outta My House." Some students stood inside of hula hoops (the houses), BUT there was not enough hula hoops for every student. If you were a student not in a hula hoop (house) your job was to go up to anyone in a house and play them in RPS. If the student NOT in the house wins, they say "get outta my house!" and the player in the hoop has to give up their house. The goal of the game is to be in a house by the end of the round!
On Thursday we played the same RPS game with our groups. We see the entire elementary school in a 2 day rotation so we like to make sure everyone gets to do similar activities!
