August 5th-9th
This week in PE...
Kindergarten, First Grade, & Second Grade got to practice scarf throwing & dancing. We worked on throwing and catching our scarves on different parts of our bodies such as head, shoulder, knee, foot, and back. We then ended class by seeing how many claps everyone could get before catching their scarf!
Juggling Scarves!
For Grades Third, Fourth, & Fifth we talked about the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. We talked about the history of the Olympics, the meaning of the rings, opening ceremonies, and the importance of the torch and the Olympic Flame🔥
August 12th-16th:
This week in PE...
K-5th learned about sportsmanship. We talked about the difference between good and bad sportsmanship and why having good sportsmanship is important! We then played a teamwork game called PASS THE TURKEY. I would designate a body part the students had to use such as hands, elbows, feet, etc. This would mean that they could ONLY pass the turkey around the circle using that body part. We worked on teamwork and communication and being a good sport.
For grades 2nd-5th, if the turkey falls and hits the ground he MUST go back to the start of circle. To pass each level the turkey must make it around the entire circle using the designated body part without touching the ground.
For Kinder and 1st we just worked on getting the turkey all the way around the circle using the designated body part! If the turkey hit the floor we would say "OH RATS!" and keep going!

This week in PE...
Kinder, First, & Second grade started a locomotor movements unit. Locomotor movements are how we can move our body from one place to another and there are 8 main locomotor movements we practice in PE. The 8 movements are walking, running, jumping, hopping, skipping, galloping, leaping, and side sliding! We practiced all of these movements in the gym and then did a bean bag balance challenge. For this challenge, students had to place the beanbag on a designated part of their body and try to complete the locomotor movement without the beanbag falling!
Some classes got to play space turkey tag which is a spatial awareness game where each student holds a hula hoop at their waist (the space ship). The student must fly the space ship around the gym by moving using the proper locomotor movement. If the student bumps into another spaceship, both must sit down. If a student gets tagged by an alien holding a green alien finger...they must sit down. To get back in the game, students have to get tagged by the magic wand (purple noodle).
For grades 3rd, 4th, & 5th they started a basketball unit! This week we worked on dribbling a ball. We did lots of skill practice around the gym using our dominant hand, non dominant hand, switching back & forth between hands, and trying dribbling challenges through the legs. We started with stationary dribbling practice and then worked on dribbling on the move and keeping our eyes up.
August 26th - August 30th:
This week in PE...
Kindergarten, First, and Second grade continued to work on spatial awareness and locomotor movements. They learned a new tag game this week called Mosquito tag where mosquitos had to hold the pool noodle on their forehead and fly around trying to tag people. If you get tagged by the mosquito you are frozen with a bug bite until another player that has not been tagged can come and "spray you with bug spray!"
Then we played a locomotor game called builders and dozers. Team builder was moving using the locomotor movement and setting cones UP while team dozer was knocking the cones DOWN. At the end of the round I would count and see if more cones were standing up or knocked over.
For grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th they finished up their basketball unit by working on shooting! We teach the kiddos the acronym B.E.E.F to help with shooting a basketball. (B=BALANCE, E= EYES, E= ELBOWS, F= FOLLOW THROUGH). After reviewing B.E.E.F, we played a basketball shooting game called Perfect Shot. The students had to dribble down to any hula hoop towards any basketball hoop. From that hoop they had to shoot the basketball. If they make the shot...they take the hoop! If they do not make the shot they just dribble back to their team so the next person in line can go. Whichever team has the most hoops wins the round!
