This week in PE...
All grades K-5th started a soccer unit! We will be outside for the next 3 weeks practicing all kinds of soccer skills such as dribbling, trapping, kicking, passing, shooting on goal, fitness, and cardiovascular endurance.
K-2nd grade learned about dribbling a soccer ball. I emphasized how we ONLY use our stinky feet to move a soccer ball. We then talked about how it is important to use soft touches when you are dribbling so we can have close control of the ball. To practice dribbling, K-2nd played a relay style game called Bird Ball. The first player from each line dribbles down the field towards the hula hoops. Inside the hula hoops are rubber chickens, penguins, and rubber duckies. The student can take one bird and then dribble back to their team. Whoever has the most birdies at the end gets a point for their team!
3rd-5th grade also started a soccer unit. This week we gave the students lots of time to practice dribbling, partner passing, and shooting on goal. Over the next few weeks 3rd-5th will be playing all sorts of soccer games in a tournament style. We will be keeping track of each class's points for all of these games.

THE LAST 2 WEEKS IN PE...
Hey yall! I have decided to combine my post for the last two weeks. Our schedule has been absolutely crazy with all the testing and field trips so several classes missed a few PE lessons.
We finished our soccer unit this week and I wanted to share all the fun activities and skills we worked on!
K-2nd worked on dribbling, passing, and shooting on goal! I taught the kiddos that we use soft touches when we dribble a soccer ball. For passing and shooting, we talked about proper stance and how to kick using the inside of our feet. We got lots of practice outside on the big field! We played a game called "Crazy Dribble." We put 45 total soccer balls on one side of the field inside a soccer goal. Then we would call one class to start. Everyone in the class starts with one soccer ball and must dribble it as fast as they can to the other soccer goal. The student then leaves the soccer ball in the other goal, runs back, and gets another soccer ball to dribble. For 1st and 2nd grade we kept timers to see how fast each class could dribble all the soccer balls to the other side. For kindergarten we just focused on dribbling using soft touches!
For grades 3rd-5th, we had a soccer tournament. We played "Crazy Dribble," but they only had one song worth of time to dribble as many of the soccer balls to the other side of the field. Then we would count and give them a score out of 45 soccer balls. The next class we played "Crazy Shooting," where students got to see how many soccer balls they could kick and score into the soccer goal. They had 45 total balls per class and at the end we counted and gave a score for each class. Finally, we played "Crazy Soccer." This is a soccer tournament game-like situation. We had one class play another class, but what made this CRAZY Soccer was that we played with 4 soccer balls at a time. On top of this, students could pick how many goalies they wanted to have on their team. Once you were a goalie you had to stay a goalie for the rest of the game. The final crazy rule was that there were no out of bounds!
