9/29/22

Greetings! Are you excited about Ole' Ian rearing his windy head around here? Don't lie--you just don't want to go to school tomorrow.

Today, we began the period by taking a little jaunt to the library so that we could check out new books or renew the ones that we have.

Back in the room, students worked on compound sentences. They took the following independent clauses and turned then into compound sentences by adding on another independent clause using a comma and a coordinating conjunction.

  • He looks like a cat in a business suit

  • Her hair turned green

  • The sound is coming from outside

After going over these, I asked students to turn the following independent clauses into compound sentences by attaching a second independent clause to them using a semicolon.

  • David Goggins loves hot chocolate

  • Perry received a neck chop

  • The ocean is rough

To end class, we looked at the story that we read yesterday and discussed students' annotations. We also addressed the Comprehension Check and Analyze the Text questions on pages 43 and 44 in the book.
