Hello, friends. For some reason, this did not save last Friday. I have to assume that it was a user error. Anyway, here is what you missed.

We read our novels at the beginning of class.

Following that, we discussed what happens when the dependent clause is sandwiched between two independent clauses in a compound-complex sentence. After several examples, I asked students to write two compound-complex sentences that follow the IDI format. One of the sentences connected the dependent to the first independent (ID)I, and the other connected the dependent to the second independent I(DI). I spent the remainder of the period walking around checking students' sentences for grammatical correctness.
