9/16/22(House of Usher Drawing Assignment)

It's FRI-YAY! But we still have work to do.

To begin, students looked at the following groups of words and determined which were clauses and which were not. If a group of words was determined to be a clause, I asked what type of clause as well as the subject and verb. If a group was determined to not be a clause, I asked what was missing to keep it from being one.

Fellow rapper Lil Bibby. An American rap artist. They are close friends. Since Nas was an influence. His debut mixtape. After he was signed. I play like Kobe. Even though it is dark. She collaborated.

After this, students read their books for fifteen minutes.

Next, we read more of The Fall of the House of Usher. I am reading this to the class and going slowly to pause and make meaning out of Poe's incredibly dense prose. Also, I am helping them see that Poe is doing everything for a reason, so it is very important to peruse the details and figure out the underlying theme.

To end, students were asked to create an image from the story. They may draw The House of Usher as they imagine it, or they may draw Roderick Usher as he is described in the text. These will be graded based off of effort, not artistic ability. I suggest students add color and a border to their pictures. I look forward to seeing everyone's images.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I will see you Monday!
