9/19/22

Hello friends, family, and students. I hope that you had amazing weekends. Mine was not amazing, but I did alright for myself. Namely, I had all of my weekend chores completed by 1:20PM on Sunday which meant I could hang out with my family as we had a little party for my Paw Paw Bill who died in 1987. He was an accomplished engineer despite only having completed five years of elementary school. He fought in World War II and was involved with five major campaigns including the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. I was also able to get to sleep before 9:30PM last night which was AMAZING.

Today was pretty easy. To begin, students read their books for 15 minutes.

Next, we began discussing Simple Sentences. First, I asked people to come up with two simple sentences that have at least five words in them. I called on different students and put their examples on the board for everyone to see. After that, I put up the following document and asked students to determine which of the following examples were simple sentences.

1. Paul broke his toe after kicking the steel pole.

2. Jill broke her knuckle after she punched the steel pole.

3. Since Lewis fell off the roof, he stopped staring at the sun.

4. After stinking up the house, my dog requested to go outside.

5. Take those shoes off!

6. So that you know.

7. That is hilarious.

8. I don’t think that you have Ebola.

9. Debra isn’t where she is supposed to be.

10. Barry will not say why she is staring at the cat’s feet.

To end, we transitioned to The Fall of the House of Usher next. First, students showed off their Images from Friday. Lastly, I read a few more paragraphs from Poe's long, dense short story.
