What's good out there, people? Did I catch you chilling? I hope so.

We started the day with some sustained silent reading for fifteen minutes.

Afterwards, we looked at what happens when you take two independent clauses and mix them together. You get a Compound Sentence! For more specific instructions on what Compound Sentences are and how to make them, read about them on your Sentence Structure Cheat Sheet which is available to you in the "Home" section of this webpage. First we went over a few examples, and then students created two Compound Sentences using a comma and a coordinating conjunction, and they made two more Compound Sentences using a semicolon. I walked around the room and checked each person's examples.

To end, we reviewed students' answers from the group activity on Friday where they were answering questions about The Fall of the House of Usher. (Fourth period began reading and annotating House Taken Over on page 37.)
