Attendance monitoring - We have received notification from the University that using the study goals attendance is being temporarily suspended for levels 5 and 6 due to technical issues which are being rectified. We will inform you when these issues have been resolved. The monitoring for Level 4 will continue as a trial at present.
Absence reporting - If you are expecting to be absent from a session or are unable to attend at short notice please ensure you complete the absence reporting form. There is a link on both your Blackboard course organisational sites and module blackboard sites. You can arrange to swap with another student in another group but cannot join another group without this arrangement. This is due to room capacity and safety guidance and we are trying to ensure the same guidance is consistent across all modules and years. If you are an Elite sport athlete you are able to swap sessions. Please discuss with the module leader if you are not sure.
Student self directed room bookings - These are now available for you to book for this semester only. Please ensure you are only booking 1 session per week to allow all students the same access. Please see the Health Technical blog to book plinth room and other technical room space. A link to this is on your blackboard course organisational sites.
Covid vaccinations - Please make sure you have read the letter in an email sent by the Course Leader on 5/10/21. The link to the letter is here if you need to access it. Please speak to your Year Lead if you have any queries.

Induction tasks - please make sure you have completed the induction tasks - see Induction checklist. The deadline for uniforms is 10th October. Details on the course organisation site
Modules:
MSK, PPD , CICW and Foundations of Physiotherapy Practice continue.
What is Student Connect?
Level 6 (or higher who completed their undergrad at Hallam) students provide “help not answers” to level 4 students through voice or text chat. When a level 4 student signs in they request whether they want module specific or general study skills support, the system then connects them to the mentor who most closely matches their needs. The service is currently unlimited and available 12 noon – 10pm seven days a week. Please see link to a mentor intro: Introduction to Student Connect from Danny, and the website Student Connect
Placement - Please note that the deadline for expressing an interest in self-sourcing your PP1 placement in January must be made to hwb-PhysioPlacementQueries-mb@exchange.shu.ac.uk by Nov 1st 2021.
Attendance and engagement - It has been highlighted by a couple of tutors that the attendance for EEP and PCS this week was not as expected. Moreover in a couple of sessions the camera was turned off for the whole group and lack of engagement was a major issue.
I can't stress enough on the significance of attendance and engagement in this module. I did make it clear in the induction session that there is an obvious correlation between attendance and passing this module. You also would have noticed that most of our sessions are activity based, if you do not complete the pre session activity beforehand and engage in the session, the outcome will not be what you -and we- are hoping for. I hope to see a noticeable improvement next week.
Library services -We are running the Assignment Bootcamps this semester, beginning on Tuesday 19th October. These sessions are designed for undergraduate students, but are open to any SHU student, and can be booked via Unihub.
There are 4 main sessions which are delivered in partnership between Library Learning & Teaching and Skills Teams:
•Unlocking your motivation
•Research and referencing
•Planning your assignment
•;Critical Writing
This time around we have also added a recommended complementary programme – which includes peer writing sessions, feedback seminars, referencing workshops and digital skills sessions.
All details can be found here – and it includes a video of lovely feedback from participants last semester. Click on the ‘book now’ link to see the full programme of sessions: https://libguides.shu.ac.uk/bootcamp/home
Placement - As soon as you receive your educator details, please get in touch to arrange IT access etc. Delays in doing this may impact on you starting placement on time.
You must share your mini CV and SWOT as soon as you can, so that staff can plan a placement with you in mind. Disclosing any learning needs or health conditions is really helpful at this stage. Please ensure you have completed all the necessary mandatory training to avoid a delayed start to placement.
