Focused Work Sessions
After a successful pilot run before Christmas we have introduced fortnightly sessions. Students have found these sessions helpful in order to stay focused and keep motivated – and a real benefit to their wellbeing. For further information see:

Dissertation Bootcamp
Our hugely popular Dissertation Bootcamps are back! These are designed with final year undergraduates in mind – but are open to all students. Individual session details can be found here on the booking link:
https://libguides.shu.ac.uk/bootcamp
This year we are piloting a series of short Lightning Webinars alongside the Bootcamp – which look at individual research topics including designing questionnaires and recruiting participants. We are planning more as the year progresses – so feel free to send us your suggestions. These sessions are 15 mins long, with time for post session questions and can be booked independently of the Bootcamp:

Studiosity
And finally just a quick reminder to encourage all students to register for Studiosity – we still have plenty of capacity and we want to make sure that all students take advantage of the opportunity to use this service:

Level 5 - Year Lead Ahmed Hassan (a.hassan@shu.ac.uk)
Next group rep meeting date: April 2022
PP1 - we hope you have settled into placement and are learning lots. PLEASE ENSURE YOU RESPOND TO THE EMAIL ABOUT WEEK 1 AND MIDWAY CALLS WITH HANNAH OR KIRBY- this is part of our placement process to support you and your PE. Failure to do this reflects poorly on your professionalism.
Please complete the below Google Form so that your Practice Learning Coach can see how you're getting on and if you have had the appropriate welcome onto placement. This should only take you 10 minutes. If you do need some support or have any questions, then please get in touch with your Practice Learning Coach (Kirby or Hannah). https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1r8KiuYcDWPFY4mhbNyNntek9hbg762naCCGQzG9RtlQ/edit
You can also now book in for your mid-way call on the below link, please ensure that you agree this time with you practice educator as they will need to be present at the meeting. If your educator will struggle to make a Teams call then please let Kirby or Hannah know and they can make other arrangements.
PP1 midpoint check in call - Google Sheets
Please note you are expected to work full time on placement i.e. 37.5 hours per week. No holidays or days off will be authorised apart from in exceptional circumstances – please discuss with your AA and/or YL . We are still aiming for you all to achieve 1,000 clinical hours despite the slight reduction in placement weeks due to Covid The more time you are on placement , the more you will learn and develop as a future physiotherapist.
ACRDM students only: Please ensure that you have booked in for a half-way call with Kirby or Hannah and that your Practice Educator is available to meet at this time (you have been emailed about this) - A meeting link for this will be sent out before your allocated time. This is compulsory and must happen before your final feedback meeting the following week.
PCM - Please remember you need a case study from this placement for your PCM assessment. Please discuss with your AA or PCM module leader Emily Patrick if you have any questions.
EEP - formative task: The deadline for submission of your formative task was the 24th of Jan 2022. Unfortunately approximate of 50% of your cohort missed the deadline. Supervisors are receiving multiple requests to accept late submissions, I am afraid this is not applicable due to work-loading and other teaching commitments, hence we have deadlines. However, the supervisory team agreed to respond to clear and direct questions around your assignment as part of the ongoing support we try to provide.
Level 5 Academic Advisors - We have a new member of staff joining the teaching team and some of you may be contacted about this. Please remember to make contact with your new AA if you are provided with one.
Thanks
Ahmed Hassan (Level 5 Year Lead)
Next group rep meeting date: TBC
National Student Survey - Thank you to those of you who have completed the NSS so far. Please Please Please fill this in. We really need to know what feedback you have about the course and the best way to do this is via the NSS. You should have received emails about this directly as the NSS is not linked to SHU directly. We don't have any involvement with this as it is managed by an independent company. We would love to beat the other AHPs this year and get 100% response rate!
Careers and Employability fayre - Thank you to all who attended this event last week. We hope those of you who attended enjoyed the event. For those not able to attend please have a look at our website where you will find the recordings of all our speakers, pre-recorded talks from some of our recent graduates discussing their career’s so far and their top tips for the transition into employment, as well as information from local Trusts, employability resources and information about further study at Hallam once you have qualified.
If you attended the event we would be really grateful if you could take 1 minute to fill in our short survey so we can develop the event for future years.
Placements - The placement team are in the process of confirming the final APP2 placements, and are hoping to release them during the middle of next week. Please have your mini-CV updated so you are ready to make contact as soon as you get your PE contact details. It is essential that you respond to emails requesting ID etc to get you registered on IT systems etc. A DELAY IN THIS MAY MEAN YOUR PLACEMENT IS WITHDRAWN. Those of you living away will need to book accommodation asap.
PCCM - Just confirm during the viva you can have a copy of your power-point available and a A4 sheet of annotated references.
I know it is easy for me to say but please don’t overtly worry about the viva’s. They certainly will not be gladiatorial - I promise the examiners will do their best to help you meet the Learning Outcomes.
Have a great weekend!
Good luck next week!

Please complete the AHP Minoritised Group feedback form. This is to get feedback on widening engagement with their meetings.
We are hoping to develop an online community of staff and students where we can meet monthly, participate in facilitated exercise sessions (we already have some offers from various staff members to facilitate these, but more would be really welcome) as well as inviting presentations from staff, students and external organisations regarding innovative practices, research and experiences.
We are hoping to launch the group in March 2022 and having a month of moving every day for the mental health charity mind again, (a few students and colleagues participated in this last year and it helped to create a sense of connection between students and colleagues during the isolation of studying and working from home).
We are happy for the group to be shared with allied health / sport and exercise colleagues or anyone else who would be interested in joining us.
We have created a doodle poll to try to capture the availability of anyone who would be interested in attending our next meeting

Would you like to mentor a member of staff about what it’s like to be a student from a minoritised background at Sheffield Hallam University?
All student on taught courses at Hallam have a named academic adviser. The role of the academic adviser is to mentor students in their academic development and progression, personal development and professional development. To do this effectively, staff benefit from understanding students’ needs and experiences.
We are looking for students to take part in a reciprocal mentoring project to help us explore and understand the experiences of students who identify as being from minoritised groups and evaluate their sense of belonging and community formed as part of the Academic Advising process.
You may be eligible to participate in the study if you:
· Are a current student on a taught course at Hallam
· Identify as belonging to one or more of the following groups:
Students from racially minoritised groups
International students
Disabled students
LGBTQ+ students
Students with caring responsibilities
Students estranged from family
Care leavers and care experienced
Mature students
What will you be asked to do?
· You will also be asked to attend a training event during which full details of the expectations of the reciprocal mentoring project will be explained; this should take approximately one hour
· You will be asked to meet with an assigned member of staff four times during Semester 2 of the 21-22 academic year; each meeting will be approximately half an hour in length
· After you have completed all four mentor meetings you will be asked to take part in a focus group discussion; we expect this to take 1-1.5 hours
What are the benefits of taking part?
Students and staff can expect to gain new insight and understanding of each others' experiences. Student participants might experience a greater sense of understanding and relatedness through the scheme, which could improve your student experience.
Want more information?
Please contact Dr David Rogerson (d.rogerson@shu.ac.uk, 0114 225 5879). If possible, we would like for interested individuals to register their interest by Monday 7th February 2022.
