Instructional Strategies

• Use number 100 chart to sort and order 2 digit numbers.
• Use number cards for sorting and seriating numbers.

Learning Tasks:

Task 1

• Shower Curtain Toss: Use foam dice or counters to ‘land’ on a variety of numbers. Ask students to name numbers, say one more than, one less than, ten more than, ten less than.

Task 2

• Use place value charts and base ten materials to model large numbers. Ask students to write their numbers in words.

Task 3

• Use number and word cards to play Memory Concentration.

Assessment

Task 1

Give students a number spelling quiz. Can students independently spell number words correctly?

Task 2

Ask students to match number words and their numerical form. Can students complete the task independently and correctly?

Task 3

Tell the students a number and see if they can write it correctly on a piece of paper or mini-whiteboard.

Are students able to do this correctly on their own?
