Ask the student to start at 2, and count on (by 1’s) to 7. Repeat to 20 and 30.
• If the student cannot count from 2, give the student 7 cubes arranged in a line, and point to 2 of them. Say to the student ‘Here are 2 cubes. Finish counting the cubes.’
Ask the student to count backward (by 1’s) from 9 to 3. Repeat starting at successively higher numbers e.g., 17, 27, 30.
• If the student cannot count from 9 to 3, give that student nine cubes arranged in a line to count backward.
Ask the student to start at 2, and count on (by 2’s) to 10. Repeat to 20 and 30.
• If the student cannot count from 2, give the student 10 cubes arranged in a line, and point to 2 of them. Say to the student ‘Here are 2 cubes. Finish counting the cubes by 2’s.’
Ask the student to count backward (by 2’s) starting at 8. Repeat starting at successively higher numbers e.g., 15, 21, 30
• If the student cannot count from 8 to 2, give that student eight cubes arranged in a line to count backward.
