Flagstaff

Refer to the Flagstaff Manual for the steps to erect a flagstaff.

If you do not understand the content of the Flagstaff Manual or the Training Videos, seek assistance from your Cadet Leaders or Instructors.

Step 1

  • Using the 3 m ropes, secure the 2 spars together with round lashings.
  • The overlap should be at least 1.2 m.

Step 2

  • Using the 5 m ropes, tie 3 clove hitches in the middle of the overlap.
  • The 3 ropes should point in 4 o'clock, 8 o'clock and 12 o'clock direction respectively.

Step 3

  • Using a piece of twine, tie a manharness knot at the top of the flagstaff.
  • Put the nylon rope through the marharness knot.

Step 4

  • Lift up the flagstaff carefully.

Step 5

  • 3 pegs are to be hammered into the ground in the 4 o'clock, 8 o'clock and 12 o'clock direction respectively.
  • The distance from the base of the flagstaff to the pegs is equal to the distance from the base of the flagstaff to the clove hitches.

Step 6

  • Secure the 5 m ropes to the pegs using tent guy loop.

Step 7

  • Attach the nylon rope to the loops on the flag using sheet bend.
  • Raise the flag.
  • Secure the nylon rope on the flagstaff neatly after the flag is raised.
