This half-term children were tasked with designing and creating a kite that represents them! To conclude this topic, Year 3 went to Parliament Hill to fly their kites!
Year 3 were invited to UEL to take part in their 'Future of Sports' event day. The children got to experience a range of unique sports sucha as floor volleyball, break-dancing and wheelchair basketball!
To conclude our learning on 'Challenging Stereotyoes' for this half-term, children in year 3 created collages. They each chose a statement representing a gender and created posters! The next step is to put a 'X' on the collages to demonstrate gender equality.
Today was Maths Day! The children dressed up as 'Rock Stars' and danced their way through the day! To begn with the whole school had a dance party, then they listened to a story called 'A Place for Zero'. Following that they had to solve a maths investigation. To conclude the day, children went on a scanvenger hunt around the school!
Year 3 have been learning all about 'Light'! This week they learnt all about shadows. They learnt how to create shadows, how shadows change their size throughout the day and how the size depends on the location of the light source.
This term in Year 3's Topic is 'Challenging Stereotypes' where children will learn about and understand what stereotypes are, and how they can lead to prejudices. They will explore a range of stereotypes - gender, racial, disability, religious, age - and learn about how these have been challenged through history. To begin this unit children were given jobs/careers and they were tasked to organise these according to their characteristics and gender.
This half-term in Science, Year 3 's topic is 'Light & Shadow'. To kick off the lesson, objects were hidden in a bag and children had to identify what the objects were using their other senses. Throughout the lesson children understood that light is a form of energy and light reflects off an object's surface and then into our eyes.
This week Year 3's Maths topic is 'Volume'. The children have been learning how to measure volume using millilitres and litres. They also came across various problem-solving questions on volume and capacity.
Year 3 were invited to an author visit at the Discover centre. They got to meet Joseph Coelho! He spoke to the children about his incredible journey becoming an author.
