To end this amazing term, Year 3 invited their family and friends in to showcased all they've learnt this term!
Year 3 were invited to the British Museum so take-part in an augmented reality experience. The children were put into groups of three and each group were given an ipad, in which a character from the past appeared. They were given tasks to complete in different rooms, to help send their character back. They really enjoyed this new way of connecting and understanding the past. Â
Year 3 have started their new unit in Science - Rocks! To kick this lesson off children had to investigate and classify different types of rocks!
This week children became archaeologists! They dug deep into sand to discover the wonders beneath it. They discovered insects, rocks and bones! This was an amazing way to start our unit on the Stone Age era.
This week is anti-bullying week! So kick this week off, children came in wearing odd socks! As a class we talked about what bullying means, how to make a noise about bullying and how to stand up against bullying. Following that children were tasked with designing a poster creating their own anti-bullying hero.Â
To kick off this half-term, Year 3 are reading the 'Stone Age Boy' in English. As an 'experience' lesson children explored what life was like back then through the eyes of 'Robert' (the main character). Robert comes accross a cave with lots of unique drawings, so Year 3 decided to created their own secret messages, imitating a cave drawings.Â
Year 3 had a special visitor this week, they had a an amazing 'Stone Age' workshop which was facilated by Gary from the 'Portals to the Past' company. Children were introduced to the Stone Age era, they experienced what life was like during that time. The acted out how stone age people would hunt for food and protect themselves. Moving on, they learn all about the Bronze Age and the Iron Age through looking at resources.Â
Year 3 were reading the incredible book 'The Proudest Blue', before delving deep into the book, children acted out the story so they could understand the characters emotions and feelings.Â
This week, Year 3 became artists! They learnt all about 'Tinga Tinga Art'. After researching different images, they drew some patterns in their sketch books.Â
Following this, they went to the art room where created batik images.Â
This week in Unit we researched some dishes from Africa and chose two amazing dishes to cook. One group made Moroccon couscous and the group made Nigerian tomato soup.Â
This week year 3 went on an exciting adventure to the Horniman Museum, as a part of their unit 'Amazing Africa'. Upon arriving they saw different animals, including lamas! Following that they roamed around the museum, looking at all the icredible artefacts on display. After lunch, they had an exciting workshop learning all about the different aspects of the African cultures.Â
In PHSE this week, children were learning about having ambitions and goals. They were learning to set themselves targets and be inspired by others.Â
To conclude this lesson, children had to design their 'dream school'.Â
Over the past few weeks in English, children have been reading 'The Incredible Book Eating Boy'. They have been inventing their own sentences to describe what happens in the story.Â

This week year 3 has their first music lesson! They practiced how to alter a pitch using their voices and hands. They replicated different beats using theit bodies!
In Reading, children have been exploring a plethora of fiction and non-fiction books. They have also been completing our brand new spelling programme 'Doodle Spelling'. They children have been using their headphones to listen and learn different spelling rules!
This term Year 3's unit is 'Amazing Africa'. To begin this unit, children had to piece together a world map, using the atlas to support them. Following this children used the VR headsets to explore aspects of Africa. Once children had explored some of the African culture, they identified where some countries were using a compass.Â
To kick things off in in Year 3, children have been learning all about 'Place Value'! They have been ordering and comparing numbers 0 - 1000! Check out some of our work!
