London Transport Museum
As part of our learning for our curriculum unit ‘Making and Environmental Impact’ Year 2 went on a visit to the London Transport Museum to learn about the evolution of transport in London. They were able to explore how the different transport methods have changed overtime and how this change has been impacting the environment over time.

Environmental cars
During this week, in geography, we explored the role that vehicles play in creating air pollution, and we discussed what can be done to solve the problem. In DT, we designed our own electric cars and then we built them by using a hacksaw and glueing the pieces for the chassis and axles together. We worked together to plan our designs and carefully considered the importance of sustainability.

Simple Pizzas
Recently in Year 2 we have been looking at instructions. This week we made simple pizzas so that the children could go through the process on how to make a simple pizza, so that they can write the instructions for an independent write. Children had the opportunity to chop their own toppings and make the pizza using a slice of thick bread.
Finding a Fraction of an Amount
This week Year 2 have been learning how to find fractions of an amount. They have been finding halves and thirds of an amount. They were able to comprehend that if a fraction is a part of a whole then one part could be a half or a third. Have a look at some of our journaling examples below.

In Year 2 we explored the concept of Hygiene to keep ourselves healthy. We worked scientifically and investigated by looking at the efficacy of different hand-washing methods. In groups, we took turns washing our hands in different ways; after we all touched the agar plates we will wait for the bacteria to grow so that we can look closely and at which hand-washing method was the most effective.

Grouping 3-D shapes
This week Year 2 have been learning about 3-D shapes. They have been able to identify the names of the shapes, the amount of vertices a shape has and they have been able to group them in various different ways. Have a look at some of the ways that the children grouped the shapes.

Spheros
This week Year 2 started using spheors for their comuting lessons. They were given the opportunity to use their computing skills to pair up the spheros with their chromebooks and the use their chromebooks to navigate the spheros around the school. Moving forward, the children will use their coding skills to create an algorithm to help navigate their sphero.

Lines of Symmetry
This week Year 2 have been looking at lines of symmetry. We looked at a range of 2D shapes and used cut outs to see if we could fold them evenly to create lines of symmetry. Folding the shapes into equal halves allowed children to clearly identify how many lines of symmetry there was in a shape or if a shape had no lines of symmetry.
