This week Manor celebrated Maths Day 2022! We had a fantastic day working together to explore maths. We took part in a costume parade showing off our maths themed outfits, did maths investigations in class and even used our bodies to create human graphs out in the playground. In PE Mr Murphy even did a maths themed lesson to help us further explore the use of maths and numbers outside the classroom. It was a fantastic day!!!

This week Year 1 went to the London Aquarium! We travelled into London on the underground and made our way there. We were so excited and had an amazing time. We were able to explore the whole aquarium, see different animals that call the oceans home and ones that live nearby water in Antarctica and the Amazon River. We loved the penguins!
While we were there, Mr Fortune talked to us about the oceans and the problem they have with plastic pollution. We have been learning about this in class and it was great to see in action what we have been discussing. We all made a pledge to do our part to help keep our oceans clean and help us better understand our school thread of sustainability.
We had an amazing time and it was an experience that we will never forget!

In Year 1, we have been beginning to learn about multiplication. To help us with this, Mr Fortune took us outside and we were able to use equipment and our own bodies to help solve problems. We made equal groups, added them together and used our sentence stems to help explain what we were doing.
Working together we were able to use cones to make an array.
Talking with learning partners to make sure we both understand.

This week we started looking at our new science unit - Everyday Materials.
To get us started we used digtal microscopes to explore the materials in greater detail. We were able to see up close all the different objects and start to understand the materials that they are made from.
We were also able to begin sorting the objects into groups by what material they are made from.
