It has been great having the children back in school and they have come back eager to learn and very enthusiastic. We have had great fun playing in our new taxi in the playground.
Our topic this term is 'Life Cycles' and we have been very busy planting seeds and learning how to care for them.
We have been reading 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. We begun our activities by making fruit skewers with the fruits from the story. Then we sequenced the story through creative activities, such as cutting and sticking and took part in a yoga lesson based on the story. To help us remember the story we made our own text maps and orally rehearsed the story many times. We then retold the story verbally before we wrote it in our books. We have also been making caterpillars and butterflies using different materials and techniques.
As well as our topic activities we have also taken part in World book Day when we all dressed up as book characters. We did lots of reading activities and enjoyed sharing books with our friends in the Nursery.
For Comic Relief we wore our brightest clothes and took part in an obstacle course challenge to raise money for the charity.
The end of term has come round really quickly. We have been learning about the Christian festival of Easter and the many traditions that go with it. We used chicks and eggs to help us work out our number problems on the maths table. We have made Easter bonnets using a variety of materials and learnt what happened to chocolate when it gets warm by making Easter chocolate nests. We also had great fun on our Easter hunt outside in the playground.
