Knock! Knock! Jokes
This week in Year 2 we have been learning how to use the ‘wait command’ in our computing sessions. In order to initiate this we created ‘Knock! Knock!’ jokes which require a pause in the algorithm. Children were able to successfully allow their sprite to do this.

Identity flags
This week in Year 2 we have been working on our identity flags. children were given the opportunity to think of colours and shapes that represent their identity and then to make a flag out of it. This identity flag will now be carried with them to Year 6.

World Book Day
This week at Stratford Manor we had World Book Day. Children came in dressed in their favourite costumes and took part in many activities: a parade, designed an advert for their favourite book and took part in reading buddies with Year 4 children.

Testing whether solids can bend, stretch, twist and squash
This week in Year 2 we have been investigating whether you can bend, twist, stretch and squash different solids. We looked at three different solids: plasticine, elastic bands and stone. Our conclusion from this investigation was that solids are different in the sense of our being able to bend, twist, stretch and squash.

Safer Internet Day
This week at Manor we were celebrating safer internet day and the theme of the day was ‘talk about it’. Children were given opportunities to speak about what they enjoy doing online and were open to any concerns that they might have to going online. Children were able to learn how to stay safe online and were made aware of who to talk to if they had any concerns. The day consisted of many activities and many discussions were held.

Testing for a waterproof jacket
This week in Year 2 we were testing out materials to meet the properties of a waterproof jacket. We tested out various materials such as wood, plastic rubber, paper and fabric. The winning two materials turned out to be plastic and rubber as they were waterproof, flexible and strong.

Ragged School Museum
This week Year 2 took a visit to the Ragged School Museum. The purpose of this visit was to experience what life would have been like going to school during the Victorian period. Children learnt lessons like Victorian children would and faced a teacher which replicated a Victorian teacher.

The Building Boy
This week in Year 2 we have started a new a book called ‘The Building Boy’ for English. It is about a boy who loses a loved one and goes on to build his grandmother out of reusable materials. The children have started writing their own versions to the story. Have a look at some of the examples below.
