This term our topic is Minibeasts. We began by readng the story 'Mad about Minibeasts' by Giles Andreae abd David Wojtowycz
The children were very excited to get outside in the garden and go hunting for minibeasts. We found butterflies, snails, ladybirds and dug up lots of worms. We also found lots of aphids on the plants for the ladybirds to eat. As well as finding our small minibeasts we had some very large minibeasts running around in the garden.
The mud kitchen has been very busy this week with lots of delicious food, such as red velvet cake being cooked.
Some of us created our own fun fair with a sea saw, rollercoaster and helter skelter.
In Maths we have been learning to count in 2s and 10s and we are getting very good at it !
This week we have begun reading our core text 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson. We have made maps of the farm and cut out ladybirds to stick on leaves. We have also learnt many facts about ladybirds during our whole class teaching.
The weather has been beautiful this week so we have been doing lots of our learning outside. As it was so hot we made our own house from material in amongst the trees to keep cool and the boys had great fun trying to throw small balls into the water tray. Their aim is definitely improving!
This week we have been discussing the characters and plat of our story 'What the Ladybird Heard'. We looked closely at the 'two bad men' Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len and discussed their features and the clothes they were wearing. From this discussion we made wanted posters to help the police find them.
We have had great fun acting out the story using masks to create the characters 'and the ladybird never ever said a word'
Friday is our P.E. day with Mr Murphy. We are getting much quicker at changing our clothes now and some of us can do buttons as well. We have been learning to work together and stay in our own space when moving around the playground. We have also been learning lots of different ball skills using the basketballs.
This week we have continued our work on minibeasts and have been learning how bees make honey. We watched an information video and made our own representations of honeycomb and made bees using paper plates.
Friday was our sports day. Even though we could not share the day with our families we still had loads of fun trying all the different activities. We have really improved our gross motor skills over the last year!
This week we have had minibeasts in class in the form of beebots. We have been learning how to programme them to move in different directions around the carpet. We have also found lots of snails outside due to the damp weather and have made some excellent representations of them.
In music we have been working with Miss Debbie. This week we used the story 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas to think about how we could represent our feelings by listening to music and creating movements to represent those feelings.
And finally we were all very excited about the football and made England flags to support the team.
