Year 7 Spelling Bee

Well done to our six students who have entered the semi-final stage of the Spelling Bee.  We have three students from Mandela, two from Curie and one from Shakespeare.
Despite having never learned French before, the selected Year 7s have nonetheless applied themselves a lot and have shown a tremendous amount of resilience. We are now getting to the last Modules of the academic year and these Year 7s have been learning extra-vocabulary on top of their homework in their regular French lessons. We could not be more proud of them as they are always enthusiastic and show fantastic teamwork during the Spelling Bee activities.

Thank you to Amily, Rishvanth and Shreeya, our former Spelling Bee champions now ambassadors, for looking after our Year 7s.

Year 9 Breakfast

The Modern Foreign Languages team offered an International Breakfast to Year 9s, during Tutor Time, to experience first hand exotic foods in our canteen. Mrs Julia Collins, Principal, offered one free food item to every single student so that they would not miss out on this incredible cultural opportunity.

Cucina and the Modern Foreign Languages team worked together to design a menu which offered a selection of typical dishes. Whilst they were eating in the restaurant, students had to complete a range of cultural and linguistic activities, with their Chromebooks, about the country which they tasted the food from.

Year 9 & 10 trip - Boulogne

Our students had a wonderful trip in France where they had the chance of visiting a French school and forming new friendships with French students. Some of our students are still in touch with their French counterparts. Academic success is crucial but we also believe that the learning should take place outside the classroom as well as in it.
The students visited a traditional chocolate factory to observe the process from using the cocoa powder to the products sold in supermarkets.  They also had a chance to develop their palate by eating a variety of different French dishes.
Finally, the activity leaders did a fantastic job with our students. They offered a plethora of team-building activities which allowed our students to make new friends with different Leigh colleges and different year groups.
