I am so excited to have you in class! I am looking forward to teaching both Wildlife and Principles of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. I hope these classes will not only be fun and engaging, but also inspire students to learn more about agriculture -- the industry that feeds the world!
My name is Evie (Eh-vee like Evelyn) Starich and I am excited to be the newest agriculture teacher at Lubbock-Cooper Middle School and an advisor of the Lubbock-Cooper FFA Chapter!
I grew up in the Central Valley of California (don’t worry, it’s the good part of California where we grow all the food!) surrounded by over 300 different agricultural commodities. I was an active member of both 4-H and FFA programs, where I was very competitive in Career and Leadership Development Events along with showing market lambs, dairy cattle, and the occasional turkey. My experiences in FFA ultimately led me to choose a career in agricultural education. Throughout college I worked in multiple sectors of the agriculture industry and developed first-hand knowledge of industry practices from meat sciences and marketing, to floral design and crop nutrition. I attended Modesto Junior College before transferring to Texas Tech University to complete my bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Agriculture and earn my teaching certificate. After graduation, I decided to stay at Texas Tech to pursue a master’s degree in Agriculture Education and completed my assistantship program in May of 2021. I am so excited to finally begin teaching!
I am currently engaged and deep into wedding planning! I met my fiancé, Jeremy, shortly after I graduated from Tech in 2019 and we’ve been inseparable ever since. He is a diehard Oklahoma State Cowboys fan and proud alumni (Go Pokes!). I became more “out-doorsy” than I ever expected to after meeting Jeremy, and now I LOVE camping, fly fishing, and hunting. We also enjoy cooking, golfing, and traveling together. He is excited to be the best ag-teacher-husband and I am looking forward to becoming Mrs. Hobbs next year!
