To celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee we invited families to join us on the field for a picnic followed by a spectacular show of dancing through the decades.
We began proceedings with a visit from Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and The Duchess of Cambridge. As the royal party entered we all stood and sang the National Anthem.
Following this, we began reminiscing, with children sharing key events from the Queen’s reign and trivia from each of the last 7 decades. In between each decade, children performed dances from popular songs released during the Queen’s reign:
EYFS - Willie and the Hand Jive by Johnny Otis from 1958
Year 1 - Let’s Twist Again by Chubby Checker from 1961
Year 2 - YMCA by The Village People from 1978
Year 3 - The Birdie Song by The Tweets from 1981
Year 4 - The Macarena by Los Del Rio from 1993
Year 5 - The Cha Cha Slide by DJ Casper from the year 2000
Year 6 - UpTown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars from 2015
It was a fantastic afternoon where the whole Horsmonden Academy community came together to have fun, reminisce and celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.
