At Hartley we had a variety of activities happening across the term, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The first activity was a portrait competition. All of the children were invited to enter and they could produce a portrait of the Queen in any medium of their choice. Once all entrants were in, we selected a winner from each key stage and sent them to Gareth Johnson MP to enter them into the competition that he had set up - the winners artwork is currently being displayed at Bluewater and our winners were invited along to the opening of the portrait ‘gallery’ and presented with goodie bags and certificates.
Following on from this, we had Jubilee ceramics workshops in school, during which all children, from Nursery through to Year 6, got to design and paint their own commemorative jubilee plate. The children came up with some wonderfully colourful creations and they are sure to treasure them for many years to come!
To end the term we had a ‘Best in Show’ competition. From Nursery to Year 3 the children made crowns and in Years 4, 5 and 6 they made cakes. Each class had three winners who received a Platinum Jubilee stationery set as their prize. We had some amazing cakes and crowns and our pupils demonstrated how amazingly talented and creative they are! After all the judging was complete, the children had year group picnics out on the field, or in their gardens. It was wonderful to see the children out enjoying the sunshine, waving their Union Jack flags and modelling their superb crowns - it looked as though Hartley was full of little kings and queens for the day!
