Film Music: Listening and Appraising music from different Film Genres. How do composers use the Elements of Music to create different responses in the listener?
Theory: Time and pitch (ABRSM Grade 1). Notes names on the stave. Note values.
African Drumming: Recognise, perform and create African music with an understanding of musical conventions and processes. Explore different rhythmic processes used in African music – cyclic rhythms, polyrhythms, syncopation, call and response.
Theory: Rhythm and metre. Dots, ties and rests. Composing an answering rhythm.
Instruments of the orchestra: Students should recognise orchestral instruments both visually and aurally and understand the families of instruments.
Composing a melody for a film score. Sibelius notation software. Pitch, notation, creating.
Instrument Carousel and keyboard focus: Students try out different rock band instruments and improve their keyboard skills.
Theory: Accidentals, key signatures up to one sharp and flat. Tones and semitones.
Pop Song Practical: Applying the skills from the Instrumental Carousel to a simple pop song. Group work in rock band ensembles.
Theory: Intervals (diatonic) and degrees of the scale (numerical)
Musical Theatre: Oliver! The genre, the song types, the voice types. Class singing.
Music Tech: Watermelon Sugar using Logic Pro. The song is deconstructed. Students reconstruct the song in a sequencer an learn the basics of music technology programming.
