INTRODUCTION
Welcome to IGCSE Literature. To help you understand the course and what it contains, please watch the following Loom recording.
IGCSE Literature is compulsory for all mainstream English King Henry VIII College students. A student's timetable shows English and not Literature as well because IGCSE First Language English and IGCSE Literature are taught side by side during those timetabled slots. There is a lot of cross over between the two subjects which help further and develop a students usage of English in their reading, writing, speaking and listening. IGCSE Literature also helps develop key analytical skills that involve evidence based arguments. Such skills are required in a range of A-Level and University courses. Therefore, students often comment about the benefit Literature offers them in their development as independent learners.
It is a very enriching subject in many ways as it introduces students to a wide range of writers from around the world. Thus, the content of the course exposes students to different historical periods, a variety of interesting political and philosophical ideas, and a allows them to explore their opinions about a range of social-economic issues.
