Sixth Form is an exciting place, you are revered by all other students and treated as young, mature adults by staff. You will be guided to success by a team of outstanding academic teachers and pastoral tutors.
We are regularly asked the question, 'why do option blocks change each year?'
Simple answer...
Option blocks are built around student requests. As a school, we try to create a timetable that fits with the students best interests; it is the students we are providing for.
Year 12 - Students begin with three or four subjects, then sit a series of external examinations at the end of the year. If passed, this awards them an Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level qualification, graded from A - E
Year 13 - Students can continue with their subjects, many students also choose to drop a subject of their choice. The end of year 13 culminates in further external examinations with the final graded A level - A*-E
Each subject is a standalone qualification which will be the primary means for entrance into university. AS and A Levels are internationally recognised qualifications accepted by universities across the globe, including all the major Higher Education destinations KH8 students will apply for (UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, etc.).
Unsure about what course you want to take and what pathways they will lead to?
Have a look at the A-Level Explorer site to give you and in depth at what the courses offer and where they can lead to.
Generally speaking you should choose at least 3 subjects, some students choose 4 subjects, although most university courses only require 3 grades for access onto courses. You will be given guidance as to how many subjects you should choose. It is always better to achieve 3 grades at A grade, than 4 grades at grade B.
