Dear Brown School Family,
I'm going to start off with a statement with which you will all agree. "It isn't easy being a teacher or being a parent during NTI." You see, I told you you'd agree with me. Seriously, we all know the frustrations that teaching, or parenting during NTI, can bring. We know the day-to-day realities and the trials that plague us as we try to educate our students, a goal which we all share. We also know that it is important for us to keep a positive attitude that will communicate itself to our students and encourage them as they continue with their learning. We know this, but it is often easier said than done.
Frankly, it's not easy to keep a positive outlook and a high energy level over a sustained period of time. So much can happen to eat away at the enthusiasm and joy we once felt when we were able to actually set foot in the classroom; it is easy now to find ourselves discouraged. We miss seeing our students face-to-face. However, we must concentrate on our successes rather than on opportunities we might be missing. Focusing on the successes will help us all keep our perspective that our students are still learning and growing. I appreciate the partnerships that have been forged during this time between our parents and our teachers. I also am humbled at the growth of our students, teachers, and families in using technology throughout the teaching/learning process!
Parents, I want to commend you on navigating the NTI process! I know it's been challenging at times. I want to encourage you to reach out to your student's teachers and share any positive thoughts or a word of encouragement. We all need to hear about those successes to maintain our encouragement. A positive email will definitely brighten your student's teacher's day.
Please make sure you are checking your student's grades in the Infinite Campus Portal. We have many students who are not completing their assignments and are not logging in for synchronous instruction. I have been sending out letters to our high school families who have students that I am especially concerned about meeting their requirements for graduation. If your student has low grades in his/her classes, please reach out to the teacher. It is our desire to get our students back on track while there is still time before the end of the semester.
The application window is now open for prospective admissions for the 2021-22 school year. You can view our recording of our Virtual Open House Q&A HERE. You can also visit our Admissions Page HERE.
Warm regards,
Dr. Angela, Principal

PROBLEM: I wish I could look at my teacher's Google Meet and my Google Doc at the same time. What is an easy way to look at two different websites simultaneously on a Chromebook?
SOLUTION: You can quickly split your Chromebook screen using a keyboard shortcut. This is a great skill for students to have when they are trying to view a Google Meet and a document at the same time. It can also be very useful for doing research or taking notes. Click HERE for a how-to video.
If you are having technical difficulties, please visit the Tech@Brown website it offers various ways to get help, and is linked off of our homepage under both PARENT and STUDENT.
