Principal's Message

Dear Brown School Family,

Notes about our Class of 2021 High School Commencement Ceremony

For this year's class of 2021 high school commencement ceremony everyone will be required to have a ticket upon entry. We are hoping to keep the attendance below 1000 people so that our seniors and attendees will not need to wear masks as this is an outside ceremony. Caps and gowns, along with tickets to the commencement ceremony, are now available for seniors to pick up in the counseling suite. Parking is very limited at Central High School Football Stadium, so please plan to park in the neighborhood. We have purchased several feather flags and pop up tents with our school logo on them to help you identify points of entry to the football stadium. We will begin admitting guests through the gates at 5:30 PM. The ceremony will begin at 6:00 PM. We ask that each family find their seats quickly and sit 6 feet apart from other families during this event.

Attendees will not be permitted to leave their seats during the ceremony to take photographs, so we have hired a professional photographer. The photographer will take photos of each student as they cross the stage and during the ceremony in general. All photos will be available to families in a high-resolution format for free to download and print. The link to download photos will be provided via email to the parent email addresses on file with our school. We have also purchased a new backdrop so that you can pose with your graduate after the ceremony for photos. The new backdrop is double-sided, so two families can use it simultaneously.

All of our seniors can sign up to receive a free dress shirt. UNTUCKit has donated hundreds of shirts. All the senior student needs to do is fill out this form by midnight Wednesday, May 19, which is TONIGHT, then pick up the free shirt at our school next week.

Notes about our Recognition Events for Kindergarten, 5th grade, and 8th grade students

Links for virtual recognition events are being shared in the students' Google Classrooms. More information about the drive-thru recognition events will be shared by teachers to families later this week.

Warm regards,

Dr. Angela, Principal

Information Requested

If your student, regardless of grade level, will be attending another school for the 2021-22 school year, would you please send the Records Clerk, Stacey Powell, an email stating which school your child will be attending so that we will have time to ready your student's educational folder for the next school?

Also, if you change an email address, cell phone number or plan to move over the summer please let the Records Clerk know so that you do not miss any beginning of the year information from our school or the district.

Scheduling For 2021-22!

Check out the Scheduling Handbook!

If your student is one of the few who have not filled out their schedule request form, please do so using the links below:

This Week's Essentials

End of the School Year Recognitions

As you know, our students in kindergarten, 5th, and 8th grades typically participate in end-of-the-year recognition programs. With the pandemic, we are unable to have these programs last school year, but we are excited to share that we will be able to recognize students this school year with some limitations. The schedule for those recognitions is listed below.

  • Wednesday, May 19th (Virtual Recognition for 5th and 8th Grade Virtual Students)

    • 12:30 PM: Virtual 5th Grade Students

    • 1:30 PM: Virtual 8th Grade Students

  • Monday, May 24th (5th Drive-Through Recognition for In-Person Students)

    • 12-1 PM: In-Person Group A Students

    • 1-2 PM: In-Person Group B Students

  • Tuesday, May 25th (Virtual Recognition for Virtual Kindergarten Students)

    • 8 AM: Virtual Kindergarten Students

  • Tuesday, May 25th (Kindergarten Drive-Through Recognition for In-Person Students)

    • 1-2 PM: In-Person Group A Students

  • Wednesday, May 26th (Kindergarten Drive-Through Recognition for In-Person Students)

    • 1-2 PM: In-Person Group B Students

  • Thursday, May 27th (8th Grade Drive-Through Recognition for In-Person Students)

    • 12-1 PM: In-Person Group B Students

    • 1-2 PM: In-Person Group A Students

More details will be provided as we approach these dates. Since we will be conducting the drive-through recognitions in front of our school, we will need to limit the number of vehicles present at a given time.

Please note that these drive-through recognitions will not be as extensive as in years past. There will be a limited amount of time to recognize each student, provide the opportunity for a photograph, and permit parents/guardians to sign students out for the remainder of the school day.

Special Note: Virtual students who would like to participate in the drive-through recognition will be given that opportunity. A Google Form will be emailed to those families to make that selection, and a time to report for the recognition will be provided as we approach the date. It will occur during the in-person recognition time provided above for the student's respective grade level.

Our softball team is wrapping up their season over the next week. They take on Moore on Wednesday 5/19 and at Central on Monday 5/24. Finish strong Lady Bears!!

Baseball has continued to show improvement every game. They have several competitive games coming up with Seneca on Wednesday 5/24, a double header vs St. Francis and Frankfort Christian on Saturday 5/22 and KCD on Tuesday 5/25. Go Bears!

Tennis wrapped up their season on Monday evening at Regionals. Sydney Makle-Bradley did a great job representing our girls team, as the only 7th grader in the tournament. Duffy Oakley had a strong showing for the boys. Great season to all of our Bears tennis athletes.

Our track team is ready to head to Regionals next Wednesday, 5/26, and make a strong push to go to State. Good luck track team, we know you will be great!!

** Any student in grades 8th-12th, that wants to participate in boys basketball next year, should reach out to coach Bibb at jbibb20@gmail.com. Our team is having open gyms and will be participating in several summer leagues in June.

Summer Tennis Opportunity:

On Saturday, 5/22, the Newburg Tennis Association is hosting a Family Fun Day at Petersburg Park Newburg from 10:00am-2:00pm. There will be games and activities for the family, and signups for their tennis clinic. The tennis clinic will run every Tuesday and Thursday for 8 weeks, starting on June 8th from 6:30 to 7:30. The clinic is for ages 5 through adult. Its a great opportunity to learn the game.

Fall Sports (next school year):

It is time to start getting ready for fall sports for next year. Our high school sports offerings include, cross country, golf, boys and girls soccer and volleyball. Practices will begin July 15th. If your high school student is interested in participating, please reach out to the coach listed below.

We are currently planning on middle school sports starting July 15th. Our list of fall middle school sports include cross country, golf (7th and 8th grade) and volleyball. We are currently searching for a middle school volleyball coach, so please reach out to Matt Davis or Justin Leonard if you are interested.

We are still unclear with what elementary sports will look like, or if we will be able to offer fall sports for elementary. We normally offer soccer (3rd-5th) and cross country (K-5) during the fall season, so please reach out if that interests your student. We need parent volunteers for soccer and cross country. If you are interested in coaching either team, please reach out to Justin Leonard or Josh Luttrell.

All student athletes are required to complete all athletic paperwork and hand it in at the first practice. Middle and high school coaches will also send out a link to pay athletic insurance when practices get closer. Elementary athletes will be required to turn in a sports physical before participating in any practices/games for the 2021-2022 school year. Elementary will use the middle school sports physical form that can be found on our website.
