Join the PTSA for 2021-2022
December 2, 2020
Dear Brown School Family,
Every year at about this time our families with students in grades 5 and 8 ask the same question: Do I have to apply for my current Brown School student to attend Brown next year for middle or high school? The answer is no! Students are automatically enrolled at the next level of Brown School unless the student has been offered and has accepted placement at another JCPS school.
For those of you who have other students who are not currently Brown School students but wish to apply for prospective enrollment for the 2021-22 school year, the last day to apply is December 16th. Admissions information can be found HERE. According to JCPS policy, siblings are not given preference during the admissions process and Brown must be your child's first choice on the application to be considered.
Please reach out to me or Shawn Wilson if you have admissions questions!
Warm regards,
Dr. Angela, Principal
Many of our students, especially our new students, are having difficulty connecting with others during NTI due to students in their classes having their cameras turned off. Additionally, some students are having difficulty completing work during this time as NTI can be challenging. We want to encourage our students to keep their cameras on when possible, and we also want to encourage our students who are "pursuing excellence" during NTI by submitting student work that is above expectations.
Over the next two weeks, all K-12 teachers will be nominating students in their classes to receive a "Brown School Students Can Do Virtually Anything" tee shirt. Be sure to watch the video in The Bear Essentials on 12/9 (#19) and 12/16 (#20) to see if your student is recognized. Families will be able to pick up their students' shirts during our "contactless" item pick up hours at our main entrance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 to 2:00 on days that school is in session.
This program is replacing Star Students now through winter break.
Please make sure to notify our Records Clerk if you have moved, or if any of your contact information (phone number, email address, emergency contacts) has recently changed. This will insure that you do not miss any important information from our school and the district.
Problem: While in Google Meet, your video is not working or it is lagging. Maybe to get the camera to work, you notice you have to turn it off and then on again.
Solution: First, close any unused Chrome tabs or apps to increase the speed of your device. Second, make sure backgrounds like "blur" are turned OFF in Google Meet, because they cause major video problems! To make matters worse, Google Meet automatically applies the background used during your last Meet. Finally, lower the resolution of the video sent or received. Click HERE for a guide.
If you are having technical difficulties, please visit the Tech@Brown website it offers various ways to get help, and is linked off of our homepage under both PARENT and STUDENT.
