사가 X 쉬 공동 주관 프로그램: 얄루 《Pickled City》 

사가와 쉬 공동 주관으로 다층적이며 탈관습적 사유의 가능성을 현대적 매체 안에서 탐색해 온 얄루 작가의 작품을 인천과 서울에서 순차적으로 공유한다. 영상 예술 연구/창작 공간 쉬에서 《Seaweed Adventures》를 통해 작가의 작품을 시간예술의 관점에서 바라보는 시간을 가진 후, 6월 중 사가 《Pickled City》 전시, 온라인 스크리닝, 그리고 토크 프로그램이 진행될 예정이다.

작가 소개
얄루는 미디어아트 작가로 프로젝션 맵핑, VR, 미디어 파사드, 애니메이션 등 주로 디지털 기반의 작업들을 선보여왔다. 기술다양성(Technodiversity) 및 미디어아트의 시적 잠재력에 관심을 두고 있으며, 탈식민지적, 탈서구중심적, 탈인간중심적 접근을 시도한다. 광주 국립아시아문화전당, 미국 헤드랜드 아트센터, 일본 후쿠오카 아시아 아트뮤지엄, 캐나다 라 반데 비데오, 캐나다 웨스턴 프론트 소사이어티, 미국 베미스 스튜디오 아트센터, 미국 버몬트 스튜디오 아트센터의 펠로우 쉽 등에 선정된 바 있다. 캐나다 마니프 퀘벡 예술 비엔날레 (Manif d’Art Quebec City Biennale), 벨기에 이미지 퍼시블 비엔날레 (Biennale de L’Image Possible) 등에 참여했으며, 현재 제로원 크리에이터로 활동 중이다.

사가는 전승된 이야기, 규모가 큰 서사의 단위, 연대기, 일련의 사건 (혹은 모험) 등을 뜻하는 용어로 모두 이야기 만들기와 관련되어 있다. 크고 작은 서사들이 모이고 흩어지는 이곳에서 전시가 산출하는 인식과 특정한 시공간에서의 진실(들), 상호-배움의 가능성을 발견할 수 있다. 큐레이팅에 대항하는 ‘사가:에피소드’, 다른 형태의 지식/앎을 생산하는 ‘사가:레슨’, 빠른 리듬의 '사가:이벤트', 물질화된 정신인 ‘사가:프레스’ 등을 통해 새로운 형태의 지식생산모델을 탐구한다.

Saga X Shhh Co-hosted Program: Yaloo
The works of Yaloo, a media artist, will be sequentially exhibited in Incheon and Seoul, South Korea, co-hosted by Saga and Shhh. After having an opportunity to look at closely the artist's work from the perspective of time based art through “Seaweed Adventures” at Shhh, a joint exhibition "Pickled City" will be held at Saga.

Yaloo
Yaloo is a South Korean born visual storyteller working with digital media. Her approach to mundane images and experimental use of new image making technology invites viewers to be immersed in her world while sparking friendly conversations on important matters of our time. She received a BFA & MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago(SAIC) focusing on Film,Video, New Media and Animation. She was the first recipient of Lyn Blumenthal Memorial Fellowship from Video Data Bank(SAIC). She received a Gold Award from AHL Foundation, NY. and a grant from Korea Arts Council and Incheon Foundation of Art and Culture, South Korea recently. She participated in the artist residence programs internationally including Asia Cultural Center (South Korea), Headlands Art Center (USA), Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (Japan), La Bande Video (Quebec), Western Front Society (Canada), Bemis Studio Art Center (USA), and Vermont Studio Art Center (USA). Her works have been part of a number of solo/group shows and festivals in the cities such as Chicago, Portland, New York, Quebec City, Malmö, Dresden, Fukuoka, Vancouver, and Seoul. She is currently a fellow creator at Zero1ne established by Hyundai Motors and a lecturer at Kaywon University of Arts and Design in Korea.

SAGA
SAGA is a term used to a transmitted story, a large narrative unit, a chronology, a series of events (or adventures), all related to story-making. In this place where large and small narratives are gathered and scattered, you can find the cognition factor that exhibitions produce, the particular truth(s), and a possibility of mutual learning. We are explored new form of knowledge production models through 'SAGA:Episode' against curating, 'SAGA:Lesson' produces other knowledge/insight, 'SAGA:Event' with a fast rhythm, and 'SAGA:Press' as a materialized spirit, etc.
